Salt Dough Christmas fun

Danielle and Evie from @littlefoots_journey have been making these gorgeous salt dough baubles and she's given us the instructions so you can do the same at home too.

Salt Dough Recipe

2 cups of Plain Flour

1 cup of table salt

Baking paper

Rolling pin

Water

Knife

Pour two cups of flour (make sure this is Plain and not Self raising or the dough will rise in the oven) and the cup of salt into a bowl. Add water bit by bit, mixing with a spoon as you go. Once you have a good dough consistency, knead the dough on a flat surface.

This part is very good for children to feel the dough, work on fine motor skills (making a fist, pressing down, banging). You can also add spices such as cinnamon, ginger or nutmeg to give it that Christmassy Scent! Another Sensory bonus!

Roll the dough out with a rolling pin, making sure you roll the dough to around a inch thick, evenly spread out. I did this on a baking sheet. Make sure you get as flat and even as possible. Your dough is now ready for your child's little hand or finger prints!

Press down into the dough. Once cast has been made, cut around the hand print with a knife. Or if you are doing fingerprints use a round cookie cutter to give it a nice round frame.

Use a straw or a skewer to poke a hole in the top of the ornament to thread your ribbon through at the end.

Put in the oven at 100degrees to cook it slowly and a low heat to prevent cracking.

Depending on the thickness of the dough you have rolled your ornament shouldn't take more than an hour in the oven.

Make sure you allow the ornament to turn cold before decorating with paints.

I used acrylic paint as it's thicker than regular paint so gives the ornament a better finish, however you cause normal paint but you may need to put a few coats on.

I used PVA glue and glitter around the finger prints to make the imprint stand out more on the Snowman Fingerprint Ornament.
